The artist
Nika Revazishvili
Georgian sculptor, graduate of the Tbilisi Academy of Fine Arts. From the theatres of Tbilisi to the studios of Europe, Nika has made material the language of a lifetime: that freedom runs through every one of his pieces.
From Tbilisi to the studios of Europe
Nika Revazishvili was born in Georgia and trained at the Tbilisi Academy of Fine Arts, one of the oldest in the Caucasus. He then honed his craft on the city's theatre stages, designing sets: a demanding school where every day you move from a pencil line to a full-size build.
His work as an artist then took him to Germany, Poland, Greece and Georgia, before he settled in France in December 2018. From this European journey he keeps the sense that crafts have no borders: carving a statue, restoring a stone facade, drawing a piece of furniture or rethinking an interior all come from the same gesture, giving material its right form.
From sketch to sculpture
Every work follows the same path: it is first sketched, then made as a model, before being carved full size in the chosen material. This method, inherited from the theatre, makes it possible to confirm proportions and intent before the tool touches the block, and gives commissions a clear process, from the first drawing to the finished piece.
Wood, metal, stone: Nika limits himself to no single material. Each one sets its own pace: the patience of stone, the warmth of wood, the precision of metal. It is exactly this dialogue that interests him.
From repair work he has kept an ethic: nothing is thrown away, everything can be saved, extended, transformed. From creation he keeps boldness: frank, organic pieces that stand like presences.
What guides the work
Three convictions
To repair is to create
A restored work is a work that lives on. Restoration is not a second trade: it is the same hand, the same care.
No material is off-limits
Wood, stone, metal, glass, clay, concrete, resin. The material is chosen for the project, never the other way round.
The detail is the work
A patina, an invisible joint, an angle of light. Everything is decided in the last few millimetres.
